This discussion report contains a preliminary analysis of the problem of youth violence and maras et un pandillas in northern Central America with a special focus on Guatemala. It analyzes the responses of the state and society toward the problem of youth violence. This report is based on previous studies on the subject of youth violence and reflects the different perceptions of the key actors involved.
