Although the body of knowledge about peacebuilding is growing, a lack of clarity about what makes peacebuilding effective persists. Also, considerable knowledge exists on leadership, but fails to permeate in the peacebuilding field.

Interpeace is partnering with the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), with the support of UNITAR and on behalf of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland to offer, for the fourth year, a senior-level course to enhance leadership in peacebuilding.

The course is ‘by invitation’ and has been tailored to meet the needs of current and potential leaders whose remits touch on peacebuilding. 24 participants will be selected from a competitive process to come to Geneva at the end of October for this five day interactive course.

‘Enhancing leadership in peacebuilding’ provides an opportunity for practitioners who are current and potential leaders to enhance their understanding of sustainable peacebuilding and leadership styles.'

A gender balanced group of individuals, domestic and international actors, government and non-government representatives, civil society and members of the security forces will come together to enhance their knowledge and understanding of effective peacebuilding and leadership.

Highlights of the course include a comprehensive understanding of:

  • the latest peacebuilding trends, insights and best practices;
  • different leadership styles and skills that can support a peacebuilding objective;
  • the importance of collaborative and lateral leadership in peacebuilding settings;
  • input from recognized leaders in peacebuilding; and
  • a creative mix of workshop styles and experiential teaching styles.
