Peter joined the Interpeace family in October 2008. He brings to the organization 28 years of experience in the humanitarian and development cooperation sectors. He is a Swiss-American and holds a first degree in contemporary history.

Peter’s belief that dialogue and facilitation with all strata of society are hugely important to building peace and a real future for all attracted him to Interpeace. The Interpeace approach supports his conviction that cooperation is essential for any progress.

Peter joins us from ICMC where he was Director of Global Operations. He headed up the refugee and internally displaced persons assistance programmes. Prior to 2006 Peter advised a wide range of United Nations agencies, government donors, international organizations and non governmental organizations including FIDA, SIDA, WWF, UNDP, UNESCO, UNOPS. He specialized in institutional development and natural resource management.

Between 1987 and 1998 Peter was at the IUCN – World Conservation Union based in Switzerland. His responsibilities ranged from field experience as IUCN Country Representative in Niger, to headquarter positions which included the setting up and directing of the IUCN’s programmes in West Africa and Asia.

Peter’s natural warmth and his ability to find solutions to challenging humanitarian, development and organizational issues have proved essential in managing large teams and programmes spread across geographies and cultures. His wish to join a growing and dynamic NGO combined with his broad experience will be an important asset to Interpeace.

As we welcome Peter to our organization, we thank David Whittlesey for the value he has added to Interpeace through his highly committed and professional service as outgoing head of programmes.
